Deco Dream Shawl

Deco Dream Shawl

Introducing the Deco Dream Shawl, this design was inspired by graphic Art Deco architecture.

Choose four colors of fingering weight yarn and a contrast color of lace weight mohair silk. I knit my version in a radiating gradient to add a smooth flow throughout the modular striped sections. The project begins with the center art deco motif as you work garter stitch short row wedges framed with I-cord edges. The striped wings are created in garter stitch while being knitted together with the center section for a seamless construction. Contrasting mohair short rows with a simple eyelet mesh stitch elongate the wingspan edge to make the shawl soar. Once the wings are mirrored, the beautiful border begins with an option to knit brioche or a simple knit ’n slide non-brioche texture followed by eyelet stripes. A final short row scalloped motif frames the border and echoes the solid color blocks from the striking center piece. The final shape is a smooth geometric art deco collage with mohair wings that float around your shoulders.
